Local Musicians Plan 3-Day Brooklyn Indie Music Fest at Littlefield

A new music festival is coming to Brooklyn. Organized by local musicians Bennett Miller and Julia Haltigan, the “Brooklyn Indie Music Fest” will be held September 16-18 at Littlefield, the warehouse-turned-club space in Gowanus. Their goal: “to bring the local music community together from its splintered ends.”

The organizers describe, “At the heart of the Brooklyn Indie Fest impetus is an attempt to unify various local independent music scenes, artists, and fans – in order to help inspire, motivate and promote these groups collectively. Our plan is to actively bring together NYC’ s best musicians to spread awareness of the groundbreaking music that is being created on a continuous basis in this city.”

The festival is starting to sign bands – including Melody Kills (Leslie Mendelson), The Little Death, The Dirty Urchins, Kendra Morris – so visit http://www.BKIndieFest.org for more information on how to get involved.

“Before [social networking] the only way to get your music heard initially was to be part of a vibrant local scene. You went to shows, hung with other musicians, and physically were there with everyone else,” states Miller. “The internet is amazing, but it’s no substitute for personal interaction. That’s the reason for this Festival. We want artists and fans to be exposed to each others’ music in an intimate way that will help unite all the fragmented corners of this local scene.”

Bennett and Haltigan plan to make Brooklyn Indie Music Fest an annual event, and will be using the Fest – and its website as a guide – to launch their long range plan to organize local touring circuits in and around the Northeast.

“These tours will showcase a handful of the Festival’s artists. We’ll provide bands with a cost-effective method of touring in the same cities 4 – 5 times a year so as to effectively build their following in multiple markets.”
