Drew Zingg Debut Album Arrives – Guitar Master Produced/Engineered by George Walker Petit (NYC)

Guitar lovers have a new record to feast on, courtesy of virtuoso guitarist Drew Zingg.

Drew Zingg has stepped into the spotlight with his newly released debut album.

One of the most sought-after six-string players in the NYC live/studio scene (or any other), Zingg has just released his self-titled album, DREW ZINGG, a 12-song collection stacked with superstar guest appearances and songwriting.

Adding to the sonic satisfaction is the fact that the record was produced and engineered by the highly accomplished George Walker Petit, who pens the “Mixology” column for SonicScoop. Petit employed a plethora of NYC and California studios for tracking, including Dogue House Studios (LA), Different Fur Studios (San Francisco), Hyde Street Studios (SF), and Downtown Studios (NYC). The album was mixed at Petit’s PetitJazz Studios (NYC), and mastered by Oscar Zambrano at Zampol Productions (NYC).

Available now, DREW ZINGG includes vocal performances by industry legends Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs, as well as a previously unreleased instrumental by Steely Dan partners Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, covers of Don Grolnick and Lionel Ritchie classics, and originals by the studio band.

A top roster of players on the album includes Vinnie Colaiuta, Will Lee and George Whitty, plus industry newcomers Monet Owens and Christine Lynch.

A 50-minute DVD featuring behind-the-scenes clips, raw rehearsal footage, recording studio sessions and interviews with the album’s principals will also be availble soon.

Need credentials? Over the course of his 25-year career, Zingg has established himself as one of the most respected blues, soul, and rock guitarists in the industry. He has served as lead guitarist and Musical Director for Steely Dan, and is currently of the touring bands for Boz Scaggs and Michael McDonald.

Additional Zingg credits include recordings and tours with Michael McDonald, Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, Marcus Miller, Rickie Lee Jones, David Sanborn, Gladys Knight, Alana Davis, Patti Austen and The New York Rock and Soul Review.

George Walker Petit sweats the small stuff for Zingg.

Behind the music, the making of DREW ZINGG has it’s own interesting story. The record is the culmination of four years of work by “The Infrangible Syndicate”– a committed group of Drew’s Vassar College friends, led by Petit.

The Infrangible Syndicate was formed to support artistic endeavors of the “unsung and deserving creative genius”, with Drew Zingg representing its first major undertaking. The collective stepped up to help give Zingg a boost that would raise his profile and connect him to the world in a big way, providing the production, logistical, organizational and financial support that led to the release of DREW ZINGG.

It’s a unique structure and model, and we can look forward to hearing more: The Infrangible Syndicate is focused on “supporting and releasing great American music.”

Zingg plans to tour both nationally and internationally in the Spring of 2013.
