Lightning Boy Audio Launches Lightning Boy — Entry Level Tube Drive Pedal

When last we saw our heroes, Lightning Boy Audio, they had just unleashed the Bolt Bender, an intriguing Tube EQ pedal with a passive Baxandall circuit and its own optional subtractive EQ “sidecar.”

The followup is the latest addition to its pedal FX line, the Lightning Boy tube drive pedal. Made cost-effective via highly streamlined controls, this eponymous pedal is available for $99.99 exclusively through the Lightning Boy Audio online store. All pre-orders before February 21st have the option of a hand-painted custom logo.

The no-frills new Lightning Boy utlizes a genuine NOS 12AU7 tube.

Here are more details, as supplied by Lightning Boy (straight outta East Collins, NY):

The Lightning Boy is our no-compromise approach to an entry level tube overdrive based on our popular Soul Drive pedal.  We kept the cost down with a super simple plain metal look, but we didn’t skimp one bit on components!  This pedal features a genuine NOS 12AU7 tube enclosed inside of the pedal and like all our other high end pedals, the Lightning Boy is made with NOS paper in oil capacitors for unparalleled tone.

To simplify the circuitry and keep this pedal affordable, the gain is preset at 100% and the tone control is dialed right in the sweet spot of the Soul Drive settings. There are no user adjustments other than a volume knob and true bypass. Gain is adjusted by the volume control on the instrument. Just like a boutique amplifier, the Lightning Boy is hand wired point to point in East Collins, New York USA with silver plated Teflon wire and silver solder.
