A Fitting ‘Adios’ to Glen Campbell

Raise your hand if you love Glen Campbell! You’re not alone: the dearly departed singer has seen his music sales increase an incredible 5,429% since his passing earlier this week. That means “Wichita Lineman,” “Rhinestone Cowboy,” “Gentle On My Mind,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” and many more are suddenly streaming and selling into a lot more players.

One of the songwriters who synched up best with Campbell was Jimmy Webb, who wrote the aforementioned “Wichita Lineman” and “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” as well as “Galveston” and many other huge hits for the renowned singer. We wrote about Webb’s masterful new autobiography The Cake and the Rain in a recent review, then Webb did himself one better: Read what Webb had to say about his collaborator, a lifelong friendship that brought both of them so much success, in this touching tribute to Campbell in Billboard.

The world won’t be bidding goodbye to Glen Campbell’s music anytime soon.
