Chicago Dateline: A Studio for the Cook County Jail

There are some open-minded people running the Cook County Jail on the Southwest side of Chicago.

Namely, the county’s sheriff Tom Dart, who’s given a thumbs-up to the idea of building a pro recording studio inside the jail complex he oversees. Behind the concept: local artist and educator Antony Ablan of the band Antony and the Tramps, who’s raising funds to splice an audio facility inside the correctional facility.

“It creates a safer jail for staff. It provides detainees with skills. It lets them use their talents. It gives them hope.”

Although the sheriff and his staff heart the concept, they don’t have the budget. Ablan is leading a fundraising initiative in search of $7500 to get the studio moving. Find out more about this inspirational project — which puts audio at the heart of rehabilitation and social progress — in this article by William Lee of the Chicago Tribune.

Antony Ablan has outstanding plans for audio to aid society at large.
