2021 Grammy Award Winners Announced, Engineers and Artists Honored

It happened later than usual, but the 63rd Grammy Awards are officially a wrap.

Nominees had to wait on pins and needles six weeks past the original January 31 date. We know everyone has their own opinion, but here at SonicScoop we thought that the COVID delay was worth it. The sound for the live performance segments was pristine, and we personally loved seeing the artists perform for each other in the Staples Center. Overall, the Recording Academy applied an innovative spirit to making this year’s Grammy’s a highly watchable—and listenable!—event.

Megan Thee Stallion’s 2020 album “Good News” helped make her the winner for “Best New Artist”.

Pitchfork has conveniently put all of the night’s performances together in one place, find them here. They include spotlights on Billie Eilish, Haim, Black Pumas, DaBaby and Roddy Ricch, Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez, Dua Lipa, Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, Taylor Swift with Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff, Mickey Guyton, Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, and many more.

Find all the nominees and winners here. Production categories officially start at entry #68 with “Production, Non-Classical”. They include Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical; Producer of the Year, Non-Classical; Best Remixed Recording; Best Immersive Audio Album; Best Engineered Album, Classical; Producer Of The Year, Classical. While it’s not officially an engineering category, Best Historical Album specifically lists the mastering engineer along with the compilation producer.

We appreciate that the flagship awards such as Record of the Year and Album of the Year include engineering, mixing, and mastering credits. At SonicScoop, we’ve interviewed many of this year’s nominees or seen them as featured presenters at MixCon (see them on our YouTube channel!).

Congratulations to the winners, nominees, and to the Academy for making it all happen despite unprecedented challenges!
