Turbocharge for Pro Tools: A Closer Look at Hybrid Engine for HDX

Pro Tools HDX users got a news flash with the recent arrival of Pro Tools 2021.6: the Hybrid Engine, previously only available in Carbon, is now available for HDX. This intelligent hardware-software integration lets Pro Tools users move seamlessly between DSP and native processing at the touch of a button.

The patented Hybrid Engine maximizes the performance of Pro Tools by enabling split processing of DSP and native plugins. It more than doubles the previously available voice count from 768 to 2,048 voices in Pro Tools | Ultimate and provides immediate access to HDX’s onboard DSP.

Hybrid Engine for HDX allows users to expand their mixing template, increase CPU headroom, and reduce overall latency. We interviewed Adam Lebowski, Avid’s Product Marketing Manager for Pro Tools Hardware and Software for a focus on this Pro Tools turbo boost.
