How Many Ways Can You Rock A Beat? A Multimedia Electronic Drumming Review Ft. FXpansion BFD & Geist
These days you don’t have to sit behind an acoustic drum kit to play acoustic drums. I know, I know… I’ve been a skeptic of “virtual drums” for a long time but it is truly amazing how far the technology has come to blur the lines between electronic drum pads and classic acoustic drum kits.
FXpansion is among the top innovators in this field, creating killer products that bring extreme realism to electronic drumming. And now…drum roll please…
We have the magic combination of FXpansion BFD + GEIST.
I recently experimented between Roland V drums, BFD and Geist software apps at my home studio in Nyack, NY. I had fun pushing my creativity between the electronic and acoustic sounds.
These days, we’re hearing a lot of hybrid electronic/acoustic drum sounds on recordings. As a composer and a drummer, it’s great to be able to switch gears between the two formats. BFD and Geist allow you to do this with very straight-forward, simple programming techniques.
I created some grooves and a few tasty fills in between to demonstrate how these apps sound when mixed and matched. I hope you enjoy!
