New Gear Alert: S4 Control Surface by Avid, M-Audio’s AIR Interfaces, Bob Clearmountain’s Domain & More

Avid announces the S4 control surface is now available.

Tailored for smaller-format applications, Avid unveils the S4 semi-modular control surface.

The Avid S4 is the latest audio control surface designed for independent music mixers and smaller audio post and music facilities. This semi-modular control surface offers the power, DAW integration, and visual feedback of Avid’s industry-standard S6 in a more streamlined and compact control surface. The S4 also enables budget-conscious media educators to give their students the chance to learn the music and audio post-production workflows they’ll need for a successful career in the media and entertainment industry.

EUCON, Avid’s high-speed Ethernet control protocol, enables the S4 to connect and communicate with Avid and third-party audio, video, and monitoring applications. S4 acts and feels like a physical extension of the software, providing an exceptionally integrated experience with any EUCON-enabled DAW, such as Pro Tools, Nuendo, Pyramix, Logic Pro, Cubase, and other audio software.

Avid S4 provides extensive visual feedback, with the ability to display everything from channel meters, groups, EQ curves, and automation data, to scrolling high-res Pro Tools waveforms, which can be edited right from the surface. The easy-to-configure, semi-modular surface gives you the flexibility to build the ideal system for a specific workflow, from 8 to 24 faders, with the ability to add displays, joystick, post, and knob modules. When paired with Pro Tools | Ultimate, S4 brings the most efficient hands-on Dolby Atmos mixing in the industry to any room.

MolecularBytes updates the AtomicTransient plugin.

MolecularBytes’ AtomicTransient is now more powerful than ever, offering polyphonic manipulation of your percussive (and non-percussive!) tracks.

Atomic Transient is the first multichannel transient audio plugin to process polyphonic elements in audio recordings. Percussive instruments, or even non-percussive audio material such as guitars or pianos, can be processed “note-based” with envelope changes or filter effects.

With AtomicTransient, you can remove, reduce, or amplify drums from polyphonic audio tracks or sample loops. Independent input and effect controls can be used to selectively edit specific instruments such as snare drums or hi-hats.

Three independently adjustable channels allow different effects to be processed at the same time. Each channel can work on its own defined frequency band and parameters—for example, a snare drum on channel 1, the bass drum on channel 2, and an instrument (such as piano or guitar) can be edited in polyphony on channel 3. An Envelope/ADSR effect and a filter effect are also available.

In addition, AtomicTransient offers parameters such as Dry/Wet, Auto-Gain, Auto-Threshold, and functions such as A/B Program Comparison, Redo/Undo, Copy & Paste Preset, MIDI control, resizable user interface, and over 160 factory presets.

Atomic Transient is available in VST, AudioUnits, and AAX formats for Mac OSX and Windows systems; it is priced at €139.
