Flavorlab, Brian Quill Handle Mix/Sound Design for PBS Film “Forgiveness”

The PBS two-part film Forgiveness: A Time To Love and a Time To Hate premiered April 17, with the second act airing on Sunday, April 24. For the audio post, acclaimed writer/producer/director Helen Whitney returned to NYC’s Flavorlab to work with mixer/sound designer Brian Quill, the sound designer of her 2007 PBS film, The Mormons.

Forgiveness: A Time To Love and a Time To Hate examines the concept of forgiveness through the lens of personal and global experience in two 90-minute installments. Working closely with Whitney and editor Ted Winterburn, Quill provided sonic depth and balance to the film, which comprises interviews with survivors and witnesses, reenactments, location views, and news footage.

At Flavorlab, Quill sound designed and mixed broadcast, theatrical and Director’s Cut versions of Forgiveness in stereo and 5.1 surround sound. Granted the creative freedom to underscore the film’s heavy themes with creative sound design, Quill helped to further deepen the impact of each account.

Forgiveness: A Time to Love and a Time to Hate was written, produced and directed by Helen Whitney. Executive producers are Paul Dietrich and Ian Watson. WETA executive producers are Dalton Delan and David S. Thompson.
