Google Play Selects HFA’s Slingshot for Delivery of Music Rights Management Services

Here’s a cross-platform score for you: NYC-based Harry Fox Agency (HFA), the well-established provider of rights management solutions for the music and other intellectual property-based industries, has nailed down what could be a big deal with Google Play, the digital application distribution platform for Android developed and maintained by Google.

HFA’s Slingshot is set to streamline things for Google Play.

In the collaboration, HFA will deliver rights management services for Google Play’s digital music service for Android devices and the web.

HFA will accomplish this using their rights management service, Slingshot, which will support Google Play via HFA’s large-scale rights database and wide-ranging publisher relationships to facilitate the licensing of music for use in its music locker and music store.

In addition, HFA will provide license administration and process royalty distributions to publishers.

That’s going to be a lot of rights to administer: Google Play offers digital music, movies, books, magazines, apps and games for Android devices and on the web. According to HFA, more than 1.3 million new Android devices are being activated daily worldwide.

Michael Simon, President and CEO of HFA, sees the deal as a win-win for content creators and digital music distributors. “We are thrilled that Google is developing new music publishing revenue streams and are delighted to streamline their content clearance process so that they can focus on providing their customers with the best service possible,” he said.
