Quad Lakeside Adds Classic Trident 80C Console, Studer Sidecar
The ice is melting on the lake, and as it goes you can see the changes around the Greenwood Lake town. At Quad Lakeside, those changes are mighty.
There is now an ultra-sweet sounding EMT plate at the studio, with controls custom built by Lou Gonzalez . But Lou has been very busy with another project: restoring and upgrading a classic Trident 80C.
The console, a jukebox configuration, can support 32 inputs while monitoring a whopping 48 returns, to a total of 80 at mixdown (plus four echo returns.) The beauty of the setup at Quad Lakeside is that the stereo outputs of the input section, monitor section, and the return of a rare 12 channel Studer 961 (also modified by Lou for direct outputs) are all on the patch bay before feeding the master fader. Multi-buss mixing anyone!?
The sound of the Trident is open and punchy with the usual colorful EQ you expect from a British manufacturer. A little tweak of the knob and you definitely hear it grab. “Musical” is the way it’s described by engineers.
Add to that the Studer 961 with it’s warm round sound (think Neve) as well as a rack of Pultec and Tubetech EQs, and you have a very wide palette.
Also recently added is a suite of URS plugins to go with the 48 in/out Pro Tools 10 HD3! This should be a spring to remember up at Greenwood Lake.
