Event Alert: Music Educators Technology Symposium — 11/1
If there’s one thing more daunting than learning the latest audio technology, it’s learning how to teach the latest music technology.
Fortunately, on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, the organization known as Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) will host a Music Educators Technology Symposium featuring star instructors Barbara Freedman, James Frankel and Adam Goldberg.
The half-day event will begin with a networking breakfast at 8:00 and will move on to Freedman’s keynote speech, followed by three lectures/demonstrations on new methods of using technology in the music classroom.
The symposium is open to all music educators, administrators, superintendents and music professionals. Attendees will have Wi-Fi access. Teachers can register here. Cost is $100 to attend. The action unfolds at 200 BOCES Drive, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.
Named the 2012 TI:ME Technology Teacher of the Year, Freedman has been teaching Electronic Music & Audio Engineering at Greenwich High School (CT) since 2001. She is the author of Teaching Music Through Composition: A Curriculum Using Technology.
Dr. James Frankel is Head of Digital Education for the Music Sales Group, and Director of MusicFirst. Previously, he was Managing Director of SoundTree, and before that was an instrumental and general music teacher for 15 years in New Jersey Public Schools. Frankel is a widely published author in state, national and international music-education journals.
Adam Goldberg has taught Special Needs learners in New York for the past 22 years. An iPad expert, he implements the latest technologies, specifically iPad and Logic Pro, to empower his students as music-makers in an all-inclusive environment.
The symposium is presented by Brian Doherty, Yonkers Public School music teacher and Manhattanville College doctoral candidate, with the help and support of BOCES Teachers Center and Manhattanville College School of Educational Leadership.
Bring four apples for all of the above, and be there!
