Pultec: Does It 500? (EQ Shootout)
In this debut episode of “Does It 500?” Producer Matty Amendola compares the sound of an original tube Pultec to 500-series alternatives, from Pulse Techniques, A-Designs, IGS, and Bettermaker.
The original Pultec tube EQs are studio icons with distinctive-sounding low and high shelves that are still loved by producers, engineers and mixers to this day.
Original Pultecs and their full-sized recreation are coveted by studios around the world, and carry a hefty price tag. But there’s an alternative 500-series Pultec-style EQs.
On deck in this shootout are some prime hardware choices from Bettermaker, A-Designs, IGS, Pulse, Pultec—and even a plugin version from Universal Audio.
