Afro-Punk Festival Featuring Bad Brains, Mos Def, Ninjasonik & More This Weekend in Fort Greene

Summer music festivals season is here, with both the Northside Music Festival and the 6th annual Afro-Punk Festival happening this weekend. Fort Greene’s Commodore Barry Park is the site of the Afro-Punk Festival, going down this Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s (June 26) showcase includes “afro-punk godfathers” Bad Brains, supported by punk-rapper P.O.S., Brooklyn’s Ninjasonik, NYC-based metal/hardcore band Activator, and Brooklyn’s Game Rebellion, along with several others.

Sunday (June 27) features Brooklynite-rapper Mos Def, with additional performances by a number of artists, including The Cool Kids, K-OS, and 24-7 Spyz.

In addition to the heavy-hitting musical lineup, the festival includes several skate and bmx showcases. On Saturday, the best trick (skate) competition will take place, hosted by Steve Rodriguez and Keith White, with the bmx version following on Sunday, with hosts Danny Parks, Jimmy Mac, and Keith White.

Contests are open to all who register in advance, with contestants vying for $5,000 worth of prizes, including an all expenses paid trip to this year’s ESPN X Games.
