Audio Post Moves: HOBO Audio Expands Ops with Three New Staff Appointments

Audio post is progressing, with three new staff appointments at HOBO Audio. An NYC audio post company, HOBO performs mixing, sound design, Foley, and original music for brands, advertising, film, long-form production, and more for clients including Netflix, Amazon, Panera, Carnival Cruises, and Google.

It is also the home of original content arm HOBO Films, which contributes to projects including scripted content, podcasts and documentaries, with original content streaming on Kweli.tv.

Howard Bowler, HOBO Audio Founder and President, announced that the company has expanded operations with three new staffing appointments.

Jon Mackey, who joined HOBO in 2016, has been named Head of Production. In this new role, he will be expanding the company’s client base and leading new business development.

Drawing on his experience creating original music for advertising and independent media, he will also helm the company’s newly established music production and licensing division.

Prior to joining HOBO Audio, Mackey, a graduate of Ithaca College, was a co-founder of the independent record label Cadence Collective, as well as the Director and Production Manager for HOBO’s Green Point Creative division, one of the first agencies developing content for the cannabis industry.

Senior Sound Designer & Engineer, Diego Jimenez has been named Vice President of Engineering.  In this role, Jimenez, will report directly to SVP and Head Audio Engineer, Chris Stangroom.  Jimenez will influence both the creative direction of sound design as well as the software and technology used by the engineering staff.

A native of Colombia, Jimenez joined HOBO Audio in 2012 after working with Ibero American Productions and DuArt Media Services.  His award-winning sound design work can be heard in advertising campaigns for Verizon, NBC Sports, Nickelodeon and many more. His creative audio skills can also be heard on long-form productions for Sony Pictures, Netflix, and HBO.

Engineer Spencer Shafter has been named Technical Director. Shafter will further develop operational capabilities in the company’s midtown Manhattan studio spaces, as well as further expand the company’s remote workflow. Shafter works behind the board mixing and sound designing for HOBO’s clients, as well as behind the mic providing voiceover services for Bud Light, Subaru, AIG and more.

Prior to joining HOBO Audio in 2018, Shafter received a bachelor’s and master’s degree at NYU’s Music & Audio Technology program. He now holds a faculty position there teaching undergraduate and graduate students about post-production audio.
