BerkleeICE, Women In Music Launch Survey to Study Women in the U.S. Music Industry

Industries across every vertical are taking an updated look at gender. Now the U.S.  Music Industry has the same opportunity, via a new initiative launched by the Berklee Institute for Creative Entrepreneurship (BerkleeICE) and Women in Music (WIM), the longest-running and largest nonprofit organization for women in the music industry.

Erin Barra-Jean is leading the BerkleeICE/WIM initiative to shed new light on women in the U.S music industry.

The two have paired to conduct the first study in the U.S. that will explore the socioeconomic landscape of women in the U.S. music industry. The project builds on research conducted by Women In Music Canada in Ontario in 2015, with the goal of providing a current snapshot of women working in the American music industry.

The study will consist of two published documents, beginning with the release of the survey, open now through July 15. The survey will collect data regarding demographics, employment and challenges/opportunities in the workplace, and will conclude with the release of a report detailing the results.

One of the project leaders is Erin Barra-Jean, an associate professor at Berklee, board director of Women In Music, and SonicScoop contributor. Barra-Jean formulated the project, which focuses on the current status of gender equity across a broad spectrum of women working in the U.S. music industry.

Visit here to take the survey, which is live through July 15.
