Flashback — The Unforgettable Tribute: MLK, U2, and the Making of “Pride (In the Name of Love)”

With every year, staying connected to Martin Luther King, Jr. only grows in importance.

There are always more people on the planet, with seemingly endless strife — and also more ways to unite. Born on January 15th, 1929, MLK would be 88 today. A golden age, but certainly obtainable. How would he be leading us now? What would he think of the way the planet has progressed? How would he guide us?

The world gave him many microphones, and we're still listening: Martin Luther King, Jr.

MLK’s unique ability to inspire will never tire. Don’t miss this opportunity to think about the way you can make the world a more civilized place — even one small positive act can lead to another.

The way MLK inspired U2 in song with their classic track “Pride (In the Name of Love)” is just one amazing way he left his mark. We’re still exhilarated to have gotten a snapshot of this song’s recording in the studio, courtesy of the massively talented engineer Kevin Killen, when we interviewed him in 2013.

You can read Killen’s recounting of a magic audio moment here. “Pride” is a memory of MLK in music that resonates on and on, like the man himself.
