Fun After-Hours At AES

We hit a few after-show events last night, starting at Platinum Sound for a Vintage King event. In addition to being a top-notch environment for recording and mixing, Platinum is a great hang.

Vintage King had a couple racks of gear on hand, from Shadow Hill, Retro, Inward Connections, Antelope, Barefoot and ProAcs and loads of fun folks were mingling.

Shadow Hill gave away some beautiful double-headed falcon awards to a few engineers, including Italian engineer/producer Tommaso Colliva, who worked on Muse’s The Resistance, using Shadow Hill gear and Los Angeles-based engineer/producer Pete Lyman, for his work on No Age and Red Sparowes, among others.

Next up, we hit Quad Studios, along with Chris Jones (composer, DJ and SonicScoop columnist), where we experienced the new Guzauski-Swist speaker system setup in Quad’s Studio A.

The monitors, designed by acoustician/studio designer Larry Swist and Grammy-winning mix engineer Mick Guzauski, sounded incredible — we totally got lost in the music! Folks were hanging out in the space designated for Quad’s new studio overlooking Times Square, being designed by Swist.

Finally, we headed over to Flux Studios in the East Village, a facility we’ve talked up here on SonicScoop. And then we were tired, so we crashed. Excited to wake up and have more fun today!
