Nile Rodgers’ Sumthing Else Music Works Releases Game Soundtrack “Gears of War”
One of NYC’s top music producers has quietly built up an impressive track record releasing video game soundtracks.
Now, the Nile Rodgers-founded Sumthing Else Music Works is releasing the latest soundtrack for one of the Xbox’s all-time top titles: Gears of War: Judgment – The Soundtrack, via the company’s licensing relationship with Epic Games.
Gears of War: Judgment was developed exclusively for Xbox 360 by Epic Games and People Can Fly. The game brings players back to the terrifying aftermath of Emergence-Day, before the events of the Gears of War trilogy, for an intense and challenging gaming experience.
There’s some heavy composing talent behind Gears of War: Judgment – The Soundtrack. It features original music composed by Steve Jablonsky (Gears of War 3, Gears of War 2, Transformers movie trilogy) and Jacob Shea (Gears of War 3, Crysis 2, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands). The album will be available on March 19, the same day as the game launch, at retail outlets worldwide through Sumthing Else Music Works, and for digital download at Amazon MP3, iTunes and other digital music sites.
Jablonsky’s latest score for Gears of Wars reflects a fresh sense of intensity and heavy energy, providing an ideal complement for the peril within the game play.
The Gears of War series has established quite a track record: it stands as one of the most popular franchises in Xbox history, with more than 19 million copies sold worldwide. In addition, the title has inspired New York Times best-selling novels, toys, collectibles, graphic novels, and other soundtrack albums.
Since the highly accomplished songwriter/musician/producer Rodgers (Chic, David Bowie, Madonna, Mick Jagger, Laurie Anderson, Duran Duran, The B-52s) founded Sumthing Else Music Works in the late 1990’s, the label has become a force in the licensing and distribution of video game soundtracks. Sumthing’s partners include top video game developers and publishers including BioWare, Bungie, Capcom, Crystal Dynamics, Crytek, Eidos-Montreal, Epic, Gearbox, Konami, Microsoft, Sega, Sony, Trion Worlds and Square-Enix.
Sumthing’s catalog of titles includes the best-selling video game soundtrack of all time, Halo 2: Volume One, in addition to a long list of many more top titles.
