“Geek Out” At Converse Rubber Tracks
True to its mission, Converse Rubber Tracks has been giving away studio time to applicants since opening last Summer.
In recent sessions, Brooklyn rock trio We Barbarians, Iranian post-punk band The Yellow Dogs and French-Mexican singer Andrea Balency recorded at the Williamsburg facility.
Also part of the plan – though more of a side-effect – the venture is spreading the good word of professional recording through giving up-and-coming bands the opportunity to record with professional engineers and equipment in a properly constructed acoustic space.
They’re also documenting a lot of it on video, reinforcing that message via band interviews and tutorials for a larger audience. The “Geek Out” video series, for example, educates viewers on engineering techniques.
Check out the following “Geek Out” segments – the first featuring engineer/producer and SonicScoop contributing writer Jason Finkel on mixing the band Abadabad, the second featuring Alex McKenzie on the Mid-Side (M/S) miking technique, and the third from Matt Shane with a cool drum miking technique.
