Heavy Melody (NYC) Releases “Fracture” Movie Trailer Music Collection
Heavy Melody is a New York City music house that is continuously expanding their musical horizons. Already a top East Coast force in TV/film composition, video game music, and software development with their Evolve and Damage virtual instruments, they now have another new offering: Fracture, a release of full-scale movie trailer music.
The 19 dramatic tracks of Fracture were recorded entirely at Heavy Melody’s Fashion District studios, by the HM composition team of Dave Fraser, Neil Goldberg and Ari Winters. Samples from Fracture, which is available now for licensing by music supervisors, creative directors, and producers, can be heard on Heavy Melody’s Facebook page, or via the SoundCloud set here.
“We’ve worked on music for major ad campaigns and video game trailers for years so it seemed a natural progression,” says Fraser of the decision to create Fracture. “We’re all fans of ‘over the top’ dramatic, aggressive and lyrical scoring style, so creating a licensable catalog of this type was a passion for us as composers.”
The team’s hard work in designing the aforementioned Evolve and Damage virtual instruments – which are used by top film and TV composers/sound designers such as Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, and Ramin Jawadi — was rewarded all over again during the making of Fracture.
“Over the years, we’ve created a lot of custom sounds that have never been released in our virtual instruments and we’ve also spent a lot of time crafting new ones for Fracture,” Goldberg says. “Developing cinematic virtual instruments for our alter ego, ‘Heavyocity,’ was initially about creating sounds and sonic signatures for our composing. Composing scores and soundtracks from a ‘music meets sound design’ perspective was how Heavyocity was born. The more products we develop, the further it pushes us to be more creative with our composing. We also do a lot of processing with the traditional instruments, like strings and brass, to create unique textures.
“We wanted Fracture to have its own identity,” Goldberg continues. “In developing our virtual instruments, we’ve honed the process of creating unique, custom sounds. For our compositions, we now focus on not only ‘writing music,’ but creating unique sounds to work best with each composition.”
Along the way, Heavy Melody was paying careful attention to current trends in movie trailer music. “Recently, a lot of trailers use musical and/or sound design “devices”; a phrase, line or hook that repeats and grows,” observes Ari Winters. “Creating unique elements that really grab you and establish a unique signature for a piece is always a big challenge. An entire trailer can hinge on a single element. After spending 18 months creating Damage, it was very satisfying to take our time experimenting with themes and devices for Fracture. We had a lot of fun.”
