“Making the Mix” Video Tutorial II: Matty Amendola and “Blah Blah Blah”

If there’s one thing Producer/Engineer Matty Amendola loves more than teaching audio on camera, it’s making music in the studio.

Lucky for us all, the prolific founder of Brooklyn’s 825 Studios – and its sister label 825 Records – doesn’t have to choose. Once again, he’s put it all together with a video series that goes deep into the production and mixing of 825’s latest single, “Blah Blah Blah” by 13-year-old phenom Juliana Wilson, which just premiered the music video here on Breathe Heavy.

Amendola uses this hook-heavy angst blast as a platform to teach a plethora of new tricks to producers, mixers, and engineers. In this, his 2nd “Making the Mix” video tutorial series with SonicScoop (don’t miss the first one here for Kerchief’s “Milk & Honey”), Matty delivers an intensive by starting with its surprising genesis — taking you all the way from an OK demo for a corporate song to an earworm pop track for a killer singer.

“I want people to feel like they’re sitting next to me, and going through the song’s production in a conversational way,” Amendola explains of “Making the Mix Part II.” Straight shooting with a dose of humor, these videos supply new ideas for production and mixing. From re-stimulating bass lines to livening up drums and much more, he’ll show you how he took this tune from sedate to punch-you-in-the-face.
