Manley Labs Introduces the Nu Mu
The legendary Variable Mu from Manley Labs is an analog compressor that made its debut in 1994. The tube and transformer-driven device currently sits atop the flagship throne at Manley Labs.
Now the Manley Nu Mu has stepped into the ring – created in the image of classic Variable Mu, but with new features and a better price point. Hybrid in design, Nu Mu combines the front end tube topology of the T-Bar Variable Mu with a solid state side chain and output stage.
Manley’s IRON input transformers, ultra-low impedance switched mode power supply used on the Manley CORE, and HIP control are among the new features. But what is HIP control? As Manley puts it:
HIP control allows the Nu Mu to “apply compression at lower dynamic ranges, while leaving louder dynamics unaffected. The result is a higher overall level, without squashing the dynamics of the most exciting transients.”
Think parallel compression without having to combine compressed and uncompressed signals.
Manley’s Nu Mu will be available mid-January for $2,800 MSRP.
