New Gear Alert: iZotope RX 6, UK Sound Mic Pre/Compressor, Orange Op-Amp & More
RX 6 is the latest update to iZotope’s flagship audio repair and enhancement software, RX. Built on years of extensive research in advanced digital signal processing and machine learning, RX 6 advances to a level of audio repair that once seemed impossible.
In RX 6, new features and workflows allow users to easily edit, repair and restore musical performances, while post production professionals can find new solutions to some of the once unsolvable issues in post production today.
RX 6 is available in four versions, each equipped with features to meet the needs of a variety of users: RX Elements, RX 6 Standard, RX 6 Advanced, and RX Post Production Suite 2.
All versions of RX 6 will be on sale through May 31, 2017. RX Elements will be available for $99 (reg. $129) and €93 (reg. €122); RX 6 Standard will be available for $299 (reg. $399) and €282 (reg. €376); RX 6 Advanced will be available for $799 (reg. $1,199) and €752 (reg. €1130); Post Production Suite 2 will be available for $999 (reg. $1,499) and €941 (reg. €1,412).

BAE Audio imprint UK Sound debuts its first product at Musikmesse: The 1173 mic preamp/compressor.
The 1173 is the result of a design collaboration among Los Angeles-based producer Warren Huart and gear designer Michael Stucker, produced and manufactured by UK Sound. The new product brings together the combined synergies of two timeless circuits: The 1073 preamp and studio FET compressor — at an affordable price. The marriage of these two classic pieces of analog gear opens up an entirely new sonic palette in the studio, either as a standalone piece in a project studio, or as a unique addition to a heavily fortified rack of outboard gear.
The 1173 is available at an MSRP of $1,000.
Orange Amplification launches their first op-amp.
Orange Amplification has launched the new Dual Discrete Op-Amp which has been specifically designed for audio use.
Built to a high specification, the Dual Discrete Op-Amp has been constructed for superior musical audio performance purposes. Unlike existing products, it only contains the gain blocks that are needed to give good, clean audio. Each of the individual transistors and resistors are of the highest quality, so the op-amp runs as close to pure Class A as possible instead of the class B operation seen in IC op-amps. It has been designed to be 8 pin DIP compatible, and comes with a socket, so it is easy to drop in and replace. The DC offset of Orange’s op-amp is low, which means they can be used almost anywhere, even active filters.
The Orange Dual Discrete Op-Amp is available for $55 via their USA webstore, or for €42 via their main website.
Plugin Alliance and Lindell Audio nail Neve® vintage vibe with the 354E multiband compressor plugin.
Plugin Alliance partner Lindell Audio’s multiband model of the venerable vintage Neve® 2254ETM diode bridge compressor carefully replicates its distinctive behavior and rich, creamy character. Available in AAX Native, AU, VST2, and VST3 formats, the three-band M/S (Mid-Side) mastering compressor plugin with vintage vibe has been making waves.
The original 2254 mono compressor/limiter design dates back to 1969, becoming a standard module in the company’s classic 80 Series hard-wired analogue consoles. Its input stage is based around an input transformer followed by a diode bridge relying on the dynamic resistance of the diodes changing with current provided by control voltage to act as a level control element — hence its distinctive behavior and rich, creamy character. Compression attack time is fixed, though the third major revision, the long-loved 2254E, allows for faster attack times. Today, the 354E plugin pairs that vintage vibe with modern utility as a must-have multiband marvel — modeling that famous vintage diode bridge compressor across each of its three (Low, Mid, High) independent frequency bands with adjustable crossover frequency bands (for honing in on where compression is needed most).
354E is available for a limited time introductory promo price of $129, rising to $199 thereafter.
Audified announces availability of the attractively-priced Studio Bundle.
TNT Voice Executor is a unique utilitarian plugin offering no-nonsense processing of vocal and spoken word tracks to sophisticatedly solve any issues quickly. Simply select a preset then use the three knobs to set the Input and Output volumes (using the I/O meters), tweak the Drive amount, and you’re good to go! Gathered into four groups, each preset contains several variants for both male and female voices.
The U73b compressor is an almost photo-realistic rendering of the unique-sounding sixties-vintage German broadcast compressor/limiter hardware (with which the plugin shares its name and upon on which it is modeled).
For the U78, Audified took the circuitry of the U73b compressor and modded it to come up with some seriously satisfying saturation. Filters were added, together with the tone control, and, finally, a strong gain control completed the U78 Saturator. Audified kept the heart and soul of the machine to deliver the beautifully musical tube sound.
MixChecker is a mixing assistant plugin that transforms studio monitors into classic reference monitors or one of several consumer devices to instantly improve mixes.
Studio Bundle is available for $399 here.
