New Gear Alert: Roland Expands TR Drum Machines, GT-1000CORE Pedal by BOSS, Return of the Prophet-5 & More
Roland adds three new models to the TR Drum Machine series.
Based on the flagship TR-8S, the TR-6S Rhythm Performer delivers next-generation TR performance in a compact and affordable package. The TR-06 Drumatix is the latest addition to the Roland Boutique series, blending the sounds and workflow of the ‘80s-era TR-606 hardware with modern enhancements. Also based on the TR-606, the TR-606 Software Rhythm Composer expands Roland Cloud’s Legendary series with another renowned TR instrument.
The TR-6S delivers the same speaker-pummeling, window-rattling, body-moving sound of its bigger sibling. It features a six-track sequencer and the most iconic rhythm sounds in music history—all in a battery-powered box that fits just about anywhere.
The TR-06 is a detailed replica of the Roland TR-606 Drumatix from the 1980s—with some major modern upgrades. This new Roland Boutique version captures the distinctive tone and iconic look of the original while reimagining it with bold new sound-crafting potential.
With the TR-606 Software Rhythm Composer, the underground ‘80s classic is now available as a plugin for DAW music production. The software version has the same sound and behavior of the original, plus powerful new features that virtually modify the circuitry for more sound choices and faster, more fluid programming.
The TR-6S will be available for $399.99 in November 2020. The TR-06 will be available for $399.99 in late October 2020. The TR-606 Software Rhythm Composer is available now via the Roland Cloud.
BOSS unleashes the GT-1000CORE effects processor.
The GT-1000CORE is a powerful new multi-effects pedal based on the flagship GT-1000 guitar effects processor. The GT-1000CORE houses the complete internal sound processing of the GT-1000 in a single stompbox, giving players class-leading sound quality, advanced AIRD technology, and a vast range of premium BOSS amp and effects in an amazingly compact package.
Offering a complete sound processing solution in a go-everywhere format, GT-1000CORE lets you travel light and tackle any professional playing situation with no additional pedals. A single patch provides access to 24 simultaneous effects, including two amps at once. And with 250 user patches available, there’s ample room to store sound creations for every type of gig. The impressive DSP engine delivers on-demand power for all effects blocks, so there are no frustrating processing limitations while creating sounds.
Ideal for both guitar and bass, GT-1000CORE fits into any pedalboard setup and works equally well as an all-in-one processor for playing live and in the studio. And with flexible I/O and deep control support, it’s right at home as the core of any rig.
The GT-1000CORE will be available in October, priced at $699.99.
Sequential reintroduces the Prophet-5 synth.
Faithful to the original, the new Prophet-5 features five voices with two multi-waveform analog oscillators, resonant analog low-pass filters and amplifiers, and a filter and amplifier envelope per voice. It also features original, genuine Curtis VCOs and filters as used in the Prophet-5 Rev3, as well as the Dave Rossum-designed SSI 2140 filter, the modern counterpart of the original SSM 2040 Rossum designed in the Prophet-5 Rev1 and Rev2.
Other modern enhancements include velocity sensitivity and aftertouch to increase expressiveness, as well as MIDI and USB connectivity. Control voltage and gate ins/outs are also present for connecting modular synths and other gear. The new Prophet-5 is housed in a collector-worthy, premium-quality, steel and hand-oiled sustainable black walnut heartwood body, with a full, five-octave, semi-weighted Fatar keybed.
Sequential is simultaneously offering the Prophet-10, a ten-voice version of the synthesizer with the same sound engine and collector-worthy design.
Both models will be available in October. The Prophet-5 is priced at $3,499; the Prophet-10 is priced at $4,299.
Eventide releases TriceraChorus for desktop, iPhone and iPad.
TriceraChorus is inspired by the classic tri-choruses and stompbox choruses of the 1970s and early 1980s. It pairs rich bucket brigade delay-style tri-chorusing with another classic effect of the 1980s: Eventide micro-pitch detuning, which can be used to thicken the sound, to add static chorusing, and to spread the stereo field by detuning the left and right signals in opposite directions.
Combined, these tools can create syrupy, smooth, and deep modulations on anything from flat synths and strings to dry vocals, guitars, and more. The TriceraChorus effect was designed to inspire experimentation with a UI optimized for live performance.
TriceraChorus for macOS and Windows supports VST, AAX, and AU plugin protocols for compatibility with every DAW. Priced at $99, TriceraChorus is available for an introductory price of $39 through November 10th. The iOS version of TriceraChorus, which works as a standalone app or as an AudioUnit v3 plugin, is priced at $14.99, with a special intro price of $9.99 through October 13th.
Acustica Audio introduces Diamond Transient.
Developed in collaboration with 3x GRAMMY producer, mixing & mastering engineer Luca Pretolesi, Diamond Transient is a two-plugin suite that completely redefines the way you work with dynamics.
The Transient LP-3X is inspired by a vintage three-band dynamic range enhancer designed in the late ‘80s with the aim of improving the dynamic range of formats that, because of their inherent limitations, were normally compressed. Getting great sound is as simple as moving three sliders.
The Transient Dynamic Filter, as the name implies, is a filter which dynamically emphasizes or de-emphasizes low frequencies in the range of 30–500 Hz, following the amplitude of the audio source. As with the LP-3X, engaging the “Fine-Tune” mode, will give you access to a total of 19 controls, for ultimate shaping possibilities.
Diamond transient is available now, priced at €119.
