New Gear Alert: Three New Distortions by Waves, SY-1000 Synthesizer from BOSS, DPA’s Binaural Headset & More

Waves releases three new distortion plugins.

Waves offers not one, not two, but THREE new distortion flavors to drive your signal into new and gnarly territory.

Waves is now shipping a line of three new distortion plugins: Waves Abbey Road Saturator, Berzerk, and MDMX Distortion Modules.

Waves Abbey Road Saturator is an analog-modeled saturation and distortion plugin developed with Abbey Road Studios engineers. Modeled directly from time-proven saturation chains at Abbey Road Studios, it provides musical saturation and distortion unlike any other device.

Waves Berzerk is a go-to plugin designed for wild, unhinged and creative distortion, and includes 10 all-original distortion shapes, advanced feedback, pitch, dynamics, sidechaining and M/S options for versatile experimentation—plus a “Go Berzerk!” button for randomized, unpredictable distortion sonic madness.

Waves MDMX Distortion Modules includes three distortion plugins based on musicians’ all-time favorites: Screamer, Overdrive, and Fuzz. From classic fat round overdrive to freaked-out fuzz flavors, this oversaturated color palette gives you quick access to the greatest distorted sounds you know and love.

BOSS unveils the SY-1000 Guitar Synthesizer pedal.

Slated for an early 2020 release, the SY-1000 by BOSS transforms your guitar into a powerful and versatile synthesizer.

The SY-1000 Guitar Synthesizer is an advanced synthesizer and modeling processor for guitar and bass. Opening a bold new chapter in BOSS guitar synth innovation, the SY-1000 features a newly developed Dynamic Synth and refreshed versions of historic BOSS/Roland instrument modeling and synthesizer technologies. Backed by a cutting-edge sound engine, high-speed DSP, and evolved GK technology, the SY-1000 delivers the finest performance and most organic playing experience yet.

With the SY-1000, you can build patches with three simultaneous instruments—each with a number of distinctive types to choose from—and combine them for an endless range of sounds. Fed by the processor’s 13-pin GK input, every instrument offers an extensive set of parameters for tone shaping, mixing, and tuning. A normal ¼-inch input is also available to blend in regular guitar/bass pickup sounds.

The BOSS SY-1000 will be available in January 2020, priced at $999.99.

Capture true and fully-immersive sound—exactly as each ear hears it—with the new DPA 4560 CORE binaural headset mic.

DPA’s 4560 CORE binaural headset mic allows YouTubers, sound designers, podcasters, vloggers, and other content creators to capture, in real time, exactly what each ear is hearing so that those listening on headphones can experience the full immersive sound. These qualities are also appealing to other applications such as sound system documentation, soundscape analysis, sound quality assessment, and sound for theatrical productions or gaming, among others.

At the heart of DPA’s new 4560 CORE binaural headset is a pair of 4060 CORE Miniature Microphones mounted on two ear hooks and sitting just outside your ear canal (like a pair of earbuds). This makes it possible to directly capture (1:1) the sound heard by the person making the recording. The ear hooks are attached to a flexible headset that is simple to fit, comfortable to wear, and easily adjusted to suit the dimensions of each individual head. Foam screens are supplied with the microphones to secure their position and offer damping of wind noise.

The DPA 4560 CORE binaural headset mic is available now, priced at $1,100.
