New Music Seminar Preview: June 8-10, NYC

New Music Seminar crash course: Launched in 1980 and lasting through 1994, NMS established itself as the music business convention of its time. The event has seen some serious change in what it represents over the years, due to the rapid change that occurred while all those involved in the industry raced to keep up with its evolution.

June 8-10, NYC.

June 8-10, NYC.

After years of music business evolution, NMS was revived in 2009. The convention comes to us more inclusively than ever with industry visionaries leading the pack by example.

In their words, β€œThe New Music Seminar is perfect for anyone looking to further their career in any and all facets of the music business. Recording Companies, Music Publishers, Music Technologies, Managers, Agents, Artists, Songwriters, Producers, and artist & label services from around the world come together each June in New York City to cross-pollinate, share ideas, and create new opportunities.”

Of special interest to us is “The Producer’s Movement”, of course, but there is much more on offer. So go forth, mix and mingle at NMS — it’s an NYC tradition!

Music Business Legends: It’s Still About the Music

While New Music Seminar constantly looks to the future of the industry, it holds in high regard those who have shaped its past and trajectory. This year, NMS will host a movement entitled: Music Business Legends: It’s Still About the Music. Conducted by Executive Director of the New Music Seminar and Founder/CEO of TommY Boy Entertainment, Tom Silverman with help from Jerry “The Geator” Blavat, speakers will explore the ways in which society’s passion for music has remained constant alongside the evolving technology industry. Players Seymour Stein (Co-Founder/Chairman, Sire Records), Kenny Gamble (Co-Founder/Chairman, Philly International), and Al Bell (Chairman/CEO & Owner, Al Bell Presents/Stax Records) will also share insight into the biggest triumphs and disappointments of their incredible careers.

The Producers Movement

The Producers Movement co-conducted by Nile Rodgers and Craig Kallman (Chairman & CEO, Atlantic Records), has some stellar new additions – David Bendeth (Producer/Mixer, House of Loud), “Bassy” Bob Brockman (CEO, Bassy Bob Music Publishing), Tor Hermansen (Producer/Writer, Stargate), David Kahne (Producer, David Kahne/The MGMT Company), and Luke Laird (Songwriter, Creative Nation) – who will join Andy Kipnes (CEO/Founder, AAM) and Mike Caren (President, Worldwide A&R, Warner Music Group), to discuss the state of the art of production.
