NYC Event Alert: 2nd Annual Indie Music Publishing Summit — June 12

Is bigger better? When it comes to the Indie Music Publishing Summit put on by Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP), the answer is clear: OH YES.

AIMP has announced that its second annual summit is expanding to a full day of keynotes, panels and creative forums for the independent music publishing industry. The 2018 Summit will happen on Tuesday, June 12, at the 3 West Club in New York City.

Registration is now open, with $325 early bird rates in effect until March 30. This includes a one-year Professional membership in the organization. Current Premier Professional and Professional members receive a 30% and 20% discount, respectively, off the non-member price, which will be provided via email.

The 2018 AIMP Summit has doubled up on its offerings.

THERE IS A SONICSCOOP READERS DISCOUNT! Use code SSAIMP2018 when you register, and receive the same 20% discount as current AIMP Professional members, plus a year of membership in the chapter of your choice (NY, LA, Nashville).

Independent publishers are defined as those not administered by majors. They continue to make up over a third of the market, and when administered companies are added in that number increases substantially.

The Summit’s expanded format will allow it to provide even more programming on the business, legislative, and creative sides of publishing operations, in addition to space for networking and informal meetings. Showcase the vibrant and varied community of independent publishers is also a major goal.

The program is still under development, but will once again include an international and a U.S. perspective, drawing from the expertise of the New York, Los Angeles and Nashville AIMP chapters during a week which also features the NMPA Annual Meeting and the Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Last year’s event included:

sponsored

  • An introduction to the CIS-Net for Rightsholders tool;
  • Updates from the national and international trade organizations NMPA, A2iM, MPA, ICMP, and CMPA;
  • A case study presentation from Pandora on marketing success stories for publishers;
  • A panel diving into the considerations around pursuing and defending copyright infringement cases;
  • Concluding keynote interview with the Grammy-winning producer, songwriter, musician and label owner Benny Blanco.

Information on the 2017 event can be found here.

For those not familiar with AIMP, the organization was formed in 1977 and has local chapters in Los Angeles, New York, and Nashville. Its primary focus is to educate and inform music publishers about the most current industry trends and practices by providing a forum for the discussion of the issues and problems confronting the music publishing industry.

The opportunity to exchange ideas and opinions with others on issues of mutual concern is fostered by the atmosphere at the AIMP’s monthly meetings, forums, and workshops, the videos of which can be seen (along with more general info on the organization).
