NYC Event Alert: Copyright and Technology NYC 2018 Conference – 1/16

Get your thinking cap on. OK, all set? Good, because the ninth annual Copyright and Technology NYC 2018 conference, produced by the Copyright Society of the USA (CSUSA) and GiantSteps Media Technology Strategies, will be held on Tuesday, January 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fordham University School of Law in New York City (Lincoln Center).

The ninth annual Copyright and Technology NYC 2018 conference will have plenty of advanced issues to examine.

It’s an intensive convergence of copyright and tech with significant implications for media, sponsored by Fordham IP Institute and BooXtream. This year’s conference brings together technologists, attorneys, media industry executives, and public policy decision-makers – all to discuss the dramatic and fast-moving influences that technology has on copyright in the digital age.

This year’s conference will be headlined by a Keynote Address from Jonathan Taplin, Director Emeritus of the USC Annenberg Innovation Lab and author of Move Fast and Break Things: How Google, Facebook and Amazon Have Cornered Culture and Undermined Democracy.

Other sessions will address breaking issues such as black box music royalties, matching recordings to compositions, digital first sales, e-book watermarking, software protection, scientific publishing, and artificial intelligence. Highlights for those in music include the 9:45 AM session, “Research Presentation: The Truth About Black Box Music Royalties,” by Daniel Dewar, Founder/CEO of the music and metadata validation service Paperchain. At 1:15 “Match Game: The Problem of Matching Music Recordings to Compositions” features moderator Paul Jessop, Founder, County Analytics; Michael Simon, President, Rumblefish and CEO, Harry Fox Agency; John Mancini, Partner, Mayer Brown; and Dae Bogan, CEO, HAAWK Inc.
