NYC Event – Chesky Hosts Live Binaural Recording @ Rockwood Music Hall, 2/19
Binaural recording – that audiophile-minded method of capturing audio with a dummy head or something equally left-of-center – typically takes place behind closed doors.
But Chesky Records is throwing controlled conditions out the window this Sunday, February 19th, when they host their first ever live audience binaural recording at Rockwood Music Hall on NYC’s Lower East Side.
Tickets are available (direct links below) to everyone who wants to be a part of this unique recording experience, for $20 per set – take your pick between three: The first is at 7:00 and will feature Mark Whitfield (guitar), Ben Allison (bass), and Billy Drummond (drums). For the final two sets (8:30 and 10), Camille Thuman (sax) will be joining.
Chesky Records is a GRAMMY award winning audiophile label based in New York that focuses primarily on Jazz, Classical, World, and Singer-Songwriter titles, with artists including Macy Gray, Chuck Mangione, Christian McBride, McCoy Tyner.
In recent years, they’ve become known for their binaural+ series, which uses a single binaural microphone to capture an aural photograph of the recording environment and present music as its heard by those in the room. See SonicScoop’s in-depth interview with David Chesky on the label’s techniques and unique perspective here.
