Phil Ramone Hospitalized in NYC
One of recorded music’s all time great producers, engineers, and mixers, Phil Ramone, is in critical care in a New York City hospital. The reason for his admission is an aortic aneurysm, otherwise known as swelling of the aorta – one of the heart’s primary components and the largest artery in the body.
At 72, Ramone’s GRAMMY- and Emmy-Award winning career includes work with Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ray Charles, Chicago, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Madonna, George Michael, Liza Minelli, Stevie Wonder, and many, many more. He has won 14 GRAMMY Awards total, with 33 nominations to his credit.
This past December, Ramone was awarded the Salvation Army’s 2012 Pinnacle Achievement Award for his work founding The Orchestra for Children, a program that helps to teach the students of New York City’s PS203 to play jazz, blues, hip-hop and pop. (Read the full SonicScoop interview with Ramone here.)
Now based out of Connecticut, Ramone’s current projects include album work with George Michael, Dionne Warwick, and Viva Duets with Tony Bennett.
