Rain Computers(NJ) Launches Rain Music Group Label, Recording Studio
Ringwood, NJ-based Rain Computers has announced the launch of Rain Music Group (RMG), which will serve as a combination record label, artist incubator, recording studio and R&D lab.
Rain Recording has launched the Rain Music Group.
Signings to the label so far include former Saturday Night Live band alum, G.E. Smith, South African folk artist Syd Kitchen, and the jazz artist Maurice Brown. It’s first two releases are Pressure & Obsession by rock band Ruined Machines, and the debut solo album Truth from singer/songwriter/Rain Computers CEO, Kevin Jacoby.
In the relationship with RMG, the artist has access to Rain technology, resources such as the new Studio @ RMG, and Rain’s online presence. In return, Rain gets feedback from artists currently involved in independent audio production, which helps improve the experience of its users.
“We go out of our way to interact with Rain users every day,” says Rain Computers’ Chief Creative Officer Keith Link. “They’re the ones slugging it out, pushing themselves to create something new and beautiful amidst a cacophony of new music. We realized that these people are also an incredible source of information to help us better understand all the folks who rely on Rain for creative empowerment.”
“The studio is part audio production facility and part Research & Development lab, so it’s set up with a revolving door of technology,” Jacoby explains of The Studio @ RMG. “Current Rain computers are tested alongside prototypes for new designs before they’re released. Software and hardware solutions also rotate and include Pro Tools 9 and PT | HD 3; Steinberg Cubase 6, Wavelab 7 and MR816 CSX interfaces; Cakewalk SONAR X1 and Roland V-Studio, etc… Suggested configurations are always welcome from customers and technology partners.
“The Studio @ RMG is commercially available by invitation only,” Jacoby adds. “Projects are selected by multiple criteria including project size, requirements and instrumentation; artist/project relationship to Rain Music Group; currently installed software/hardware, etc…”
Jacoby also notes that The Studio @ RMG is often used for remote sessions, as well as commercially available audio services like mixing, mastering, and audio repair where the client is not necessarily present during the session.
