November 25th, 2017 by David Weiss
One of the most influential producers and pioneers of the music business, George Avakian, passed away this week at age 98.
Avakian’s effect on music ran as deep as his life was long. His incredible career included producing Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, and Dave Brubeck. He helped found the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), which presents the GRAMMY Awards, as well as executive positions at Columbia Records and Warner Bros. In those posts, he was instrumental in bringing liner notes, the LP, and live albums into popular culture.
