Rough Magic Hosts Pharoahe Monch, DeVotchKa, The Lesser Ghost; Seeks Producer Tenants
Rough Magic Studios, a music rehearsal and recording studio in Greenpoint, hosted sessions on a number of recent releases, including DeVotchKa’s Spring release, 100 Lovers for Anti- Records. All percussion tracks for the album were recorded at Rough Magic by engineer/producer Alby Cohen.
Rough Magic friends the Fyre Dept. produced the track “The Grand Illusion (Circa 1973)” on Pharoahe Monch’s recently released album, W.A.R. (We Are Renegades), just out via Duck Down Records. The track was recorded at Rough Magic – Cohen sang background vocals. Mike Gibney mixed the song.
Cohen also recently produced an EP for The Kobolds, EP II, and tracked and mixed an album for Mel Flannery.
And The Lesser Ghost recorded the majority of their self-titled EP at Rough Magic – tracking everything but vocals and keyboards at the studio.
In other news, Rough Magic currently has two rooms available for rent to producers and engineers who are looking for a pre-production room that is also wired into our control room. Please contact the studio if you would like to take a look at the room.
And the studio welcomes a group of new staff members to its team — Joe Demby, former Chung King manager, is now managing Rough Magic, and Chris Pummill and Aaron Mason have come on board as assistant engineers.
