The creative media school officially opened its new Chelsea campus last week, as a large group of accomplished audio guests ushered in SAE NY’s next era.

Set on a beautiful downtown street, the two-floor, 25,000 sq. ft. facility includes five studios — equipped with an SSL 4000G+, Neve 88R, Audient 8024, Avid Icon, and Yamaha 02R — plus four production suites. The new building also houses five classrooms, and a foundation area with additional work stations.

Emerging stars mingled with top engineers, mixers, producers, audio post, mastering engineers, and music business personnel throughout the evening. Meanwhile, some very special events took place in the studio as guests sat in on Q&A sessions with super mixer Bob Power, Sterling Sound mastering engineer Chris Gehringer and Manhattan Centers Studios Chief Engineer Darren Moore.

There were two eye-catching headliners on the event as well: Singer-songwriter Skylar Grey (“Love the Way You Lie”) performed a captivating set of piano and vocals, while world-class producer Just Blaze (Jay-Z, Eminem) gave a gripping mini-seminar to an appreciative audience upstairs.

Another high point of the evening was the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which included top SAE brass from across the globe. Executives on hand to christen the new campus included Chris Davie, Vice President of Operations, SAE USA; Fred Ditman, National Director of Facilities, SAE USA; Romy Hawatt, CEO, SAE Institute; Rod Jones, CEO of Navitas; Scott McKinley, President, SAE USA; SAE founder Tom Misner; and Mike Morrell, Campus Director, SAE New York.
