Search Party (NYC) Expands with Oregon Office, Adds Chris Funk of the Decemberists to Roster
Search Party, a provider of original music and music supervision for all media, announced that it has expanded beyond its New York City headquarters with a new Portland, OR, office. In addition, it has added composer/multi-instrumentalist Chris Funk of The Decemberists to their new Portland office.
The signing marks Funk’s first-ever commercial music representation. He has worked with such artists as The Shins, Laura Veirs, Blue Giant and more, and is also a founding member of the acclaimed neo-gothic string band Black Prairie on Sugar Hill Records. The Decemberists’ new album, “The King Is Dead,” released January 18th.
Search Party’s new Portland operation is housed in the former music venue La Luna. Shuttered in 1999, the venue was a fixture in the grunge era, hosting the likes of Nirvana, The Dandy Warhols, Elliott Smith, Everclear and Sweaty Nipples among others. The new office is headed up by EP Sara Matarazzo, who relocated to the Northwest from New York, and has already lined up projects for Target out of Wieden + Kennedy, Portland and a Super Bowl spot for Budweiser.
“Portland is a very creative city,” explains Matarazzo, E.P. and Music Supervisor. “Its affordable and because of that, it attracts many artists. There is an amazing music scene here and everyone champions one another. Search Party was able to tap into the music scene here and create original music and content with artists that are open to the challenge.
“We don’t want to be like every other music house that has 6 guys locked up in a room all day. It’s inspiring to work with people that are out there being creative. Physical presence is an important part of creating. We want artists to come in and work with us and meet the clients if possible. It’s not always possible due to time constraints on most projects – but it’s always our preference to have people in the room to create together. ”
