Antibalas Side-Project Superhuman Happiness Releases New Single, “The Hounds”
Superhuman Happiness, the Brooklyn-based afro-funk band/collective led by Antibalas horn master Stuart Bogie (FELA!, Iron and Wine, TV on the Radio), will release their new 45 and digital single “GMYL”/”The Hounds” on March 1 via Electric Cowbell Records.
Bogie’s band-mates in Superhuman Happiness — Eric Biondo, Jared Samuel, Luke O’Malley, Ryan Ferreira, Nikhil Yerawadekar and Miles Arntzen — are all multifaceted players who have performed with artists such as The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Passion Pit, James Hunter, The Roots, Holly Miranda and Foals.
Superhuman Happiness is part composition / part improvisation, building around hand-clapping rhythms and live collaboration.
“GMYL” was produced by Bogie and Antibalas/Fela! guitarist Luke O’Malley, recorded by Dan Huron (Telepathe, TV On The Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and Michael DiSanto, and mixed by Huron. Huron also engineered “The Hounds. Both were mastered by Steve Berson at Total Sonic Mastering in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
Superhuman Happiness will be performing at two great listening venues coming up — Friday February 25 at Zebulon and Tuesday March 1 at Le Poisson Rouge. Check them out!
