The Guild of Music Supervisors Elects Thomas Golubić President

The leading organization for professionals who place music to picture, The Guild of Music Supervisors, is making major moves.

First is the election of the well-respected Thomas Golubić (“Better Call Saul,” “Breaking Bad,” “Six Feet Under”) as the new President of the organization.  Former President John Houlihan has accepted a position as Senior Vice President at Fox Music and is stepping down from his post.

Thomas Golubić is the new President of the Guild of Music Supervisors.

The Guild of Music Supervisors board has recently increased to 11 members including recent additions Ed Gerrard, Heather Guibert, Madonna Wade-Reed, and Amanda Krieg Thomas. “In order to harness the fresh energy of our expanded board”, says Golubić, “I have appointed Amanda as Head of Membership Infrastructure, Madonna as Head of LA Member Outreach and Ed as Head of East Coast Membership Outreach while Heather Guibert will be working with me as Head of Guild Development. Helping to maintain stability and keep us focused on our core vision, I have asked board member Robin Kaye to step in as my Vice President and Joel C. High and Jonathan McHugh to remain as Treasurer and Secretary respectively.  We have an incredibly talented team in place and a lot of exciting work ahead.”

On October 5th, the Guild hosted an outreach panel event at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza offering a capacity crowd from the South Los Angeles community an opportunity to learn about the craft of Music Supervision from successful professionals, many born and raised in South Los Angeles.  The panel included music supervisors Angela Jollivette, Yvette Metoyer, Morgan Rhodes and Madonna Wade-Reed alongside Music Director Rickey Minor, Music Executive Carolyn Richardson, and moderated by Thomas Golubić.

The 7-year old non-profit organization focused on promoting and supporting the craft of music supervision has recently celebrated the creation of an “Outstanding Music Supervision” Emmy award.  Television Academy Governor Michael Levine will be among the guests at a special Emmy TV panel as part of the Guild of Music Supervisors 3rd Annual “State of Music in Media’ Conference event happening on Wednesday, October 11th at USC’s Bovard Auditorium. The event is part of a newly developed alliance Golubić has brokered between the Guild and the USC Thornton Music Industry Program.

“What a natural fit this is for us in particular,” says Dr. Paul Young, Chair of the USC Thornton Music Industry Program, “to become the new host of the Guild’s Music and Media Conference. GMS is a terrific example of a professional organization who shares our own philosophy and message.”

Second on the agenda, the annual Guild of Music Supervisors Media Conference is happening October 11th at Bovard Auditorium, on the USC campus.  The 3rd annual conference, presented alongside the USC Thornton School of Music, will focus on recent Emmy nominated programs, particularly highlighting the newly minted Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Supervision, which was awarded to Susan Jacobs for her work on Big Little Lies.  The Emmy TV Music Supervision Deep Dive will explore what it takes to put together the music for Emmy-worthy television featuring guest speakers Jen Malone along with editors Isaac Hagy and Kyle Reiter from Atlanta; Thomas Golubić, composer Dave Porter, series creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould from Better Call Saul; Maggie Phillips and composer Jeff Russo from Fargo; Manish Raval and Jonathan Leahy from Master of None; plus Television Academy Governor Michael Levine and moderated by John Horn of KPCC’s The Frame.
