Universal Audio Launches Maag EQ4 Plugin for UAD Platform & Apollo
A hit-making hardware EQ has just jumped into the box.
The titillating tone-shaper? No less than the Maag EQ4, developed by Universal Audio in partnership with the German software geniuses Brainworx for UA’s UAD platform and Apollo audio interfaces.
The origins of the Maag EQ4 have a story of their own. Longtime engineer/inventor Cliff Maag based the unit on his highly-desirable NTI EQ3, which featured the Air Band control that shaped vocal mix chains for the likes of Madonna’s Ray of Light and Celine Dion’s Taking Changes. Highly adept at creating presence, the Air Band is integral to the modern EQ4, which was designed to provide extreme transparency and top-end presence while maintaining a true and natural sound.
As SonicScoop has reported on in the past, Brainworx knows how to build precise digital emulation. Their latest collaboration for Universal Audio opens up a powerful new EQ for tracking and mixing to UAD and Apollo users.
The Maag EQ4 plugin is available now from UA for $229. Notable features include:
- Adds presence to vocals, acoustic guitars, and overheads
- Elevates treble frequencies without harshness or hiss
- Five-position Air Band control
- Adjusts overall EQ level with an added Trim control
- Developed for the UAD Powered Plug-Ins platform by Brainworx
- Requires UAD-2 DSP Accelerator Card or Apollo Interface
