Universal Music Group Names Lucian Grainge Chief Executive — Will Be NYC-Based
Universal Music Group announced Wednesday that Lucian Grainge will become chief executive.
Grainge is currently head of the international division for Universal, which stands as the world’s largest music company.
He will be moving from London to New York City in July, at which point he will head the company along with Universal’s current CEO Doug Morris. In January 2011, Grainge will be the sole CEO of the company.
Doug Morris will remain as chairman of Universal through 2013, and possibly beyond.
U2, Kanye West, and Lady Gaga are all some of the elite artists on the roster of Universal, which is owned by French telecom/media conglomerate Vivendi.

I think it can never hurt to have the boss around. It may be really great for NYC’s music scene to have him here, since it will have a natural, trickle-down effect at resurrecting some of the industry locally. And NY should be King again!
