WFUV Morning Show Host Claudia Marshall to Step Down
One of NYC’s most beloved DJ’s is taking a break.
Claudia Marshall, who has been the morning host on WFUV 90.7 FM since January, 2001, announced today on her program and in a blog post on the WFUV web site that this coming Friday, October 26, will be her last day on the air at the station.
WFUV’s evening host Corny O’Connell, who has served as an occasional substitute for Marshall before, will step in to do mornings from 5:00-10:00 a.m. on an interim basis. Meanwhile, WFUV will conduct a national search for its next morning show host.
O’Connell will also continue the popular “Question of the Day” feature in the 9 o’clock hour. WFUV fill-in hosts Eric Holland and Carmel Holt will share the evening duties in the meantime.
Marshall explained her surprise move thusly. “After twelve years of the 3:30 a.m. alarm, it’s simply time to move on. And to sleep in. I have some exciting things in the works and when the time is right, I’ll share them. I’ve had opportunities here that I would not have had at any other radio station on earth. I hope you’ll give Corny your support while the station searches for its next morning host.”
To our ears, Marshall has long stood as one of NYC’s premier on-air DJs. Her deep level of knowledge about seemingly every song she spins — delivered in her made-for-radio voice — creates a uniquely satisfying engagement between her and the listening audience. We’ll look forward to hearing Claudia Marshall again when she resurfaces.
WFUV, New York’s Rock and Roots station, is a noncommercial, member-supported radio station, which has been licensed to Fordham University for 65 years.

October 25, 2012 at 12:29 pm (12 years ago)Sorta. WFUV provides nothing particularly new, or particularly hard to find. They support their cadre of somewhat washy bands and folkies, and more established groups. Claudia Marshall will be easy to replace.

October 26, 2012 at 7:23 pm (12 years ago)I’ve been looking forward to this day ever since Ms. Marshall replaced Darren years ago. While she is very knowledgeable, she has the nickname of The Morning Babbler for her incessant rambling instead of playing music.
