Three Days with Mick Guzauski: Mixing Masterclass Retreat November 15th-17th, at Upstate NY’s Outlier Inn

We’re talking three days of ultimate mixing education with 11-time Grammy Award winner, Mick Guzauski. Affable as he is artistic and accomplished, Guzauski is set to take residence at The Studio at the Outlier Inn in Woodridge, NY which is hosting its first mixing workshop in collaboration with Audio Sin Fronteras, November 15th through 17th, 2019.

Guzauski has mixed and engineered more than 27 #1 hits, making him one of the world’s elite mix engineers. Most recently, Guzauski was nominated at 2019’s 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards in the coveted “Album of the Year” category for his work mixing Dirty Computer by Janelle Monáe.
Another landmark record from Guzauski came in 2013, when Daft Punk was looking for a recording/mix engineer to add to the team on their fourth album, and Guzauski received the call. Unlike most dance records, the sound of Random Access Memories is completely organic, with incredible dynamics. Guzauski is currently known for his natural and organic sound, with mixes that always sound unprocessed, real and sweet to the ears. Guzauski’s career began growing up in Rochester, NY where there were no nearby studios, Guzauski arranged his own studio in his parents’ basement. At the beginning of the ’80s, Mick worked with Maurice White and Earth, Wind and Fire in the George Massenburg complex. Conway Studios in L.A became Mick’s home base in the mid-80′s where he engineered and mixed projects for Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, Mister Mister, Madonna, Talking Heads, Johnny Mathis, Henry Mancini, Patti LaBelle, Stanley Clarke, George Duke, Quincy Jones, Michael Bolton, Cher, Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Daft Punk, Mariah Carey, Talking Heads and Eric Clapton.
Mick’s Mix Masterclass
This exclusive masterclass is aimed at producers, engineers and musicians willing to expand their knowledge, and improve their mixing techniques. It is composed of three sessions, from 10 AM to 7 PM held at The Studio at the Outlier Inn.
Focused on the ITB mix (In The Box), these sessions will be arranged in three large sections:
- Exploration of techniques and tools used by Mick Guzauski, applied to a mix made in studio with a guest artist
- The analysis of previous work, based on sessions with various international artists
- Analysis and work on mixes made by the participants of the workshop
The workshop will be held in Studio A at the Outlier Inn in Woodridge, NY, a bucolic 12-acre property in New York state’s southern Catskill mountains, 90 miles from NYC. The Inn offers a peaceful and inspiring respite from life in the Big City. It is a retreat center, an event/workshop/location space, a fiber and vegetable farm, and a world-class recording studio. The cost of the workshop is $1,800. This includes workshops, meals and accommodations. Private rooms are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and the remainder of the rooms are shared. A 50% deposit is required to reserve your place and is refundable up until the remaining balance is due on October 1st, 2019.
