Composer Joel Beckerman Wins Television’s “Most Performed Themes” For 5th Consecutive Year
NYC-based music-for-media composer Joel Beckerman won television’s “Most Performed Themes” award at ASCAP‘s 25th Annual Film & Television Music Awards last month.
The ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, celebrating the work of composers, songwriters, lyricists and music publishers of various genres. Beckerman’s award commemorates the highest number of performance credits on network, local and cable television in the category of themes and dramatic underscore in 2009.
This is the fifth year in a row that Beckerman’s taken home this award.
Beckerman, a New York University graduate, is the President and Founder of Man Made Music, a bi-coastal music company and consultancy founded in 1998. Man Made’s portfolio includes projects with a number of television networks including CBS , A&E, HBO and ESPN, to name a few, as well as a variety of commercials and television series.
This year, Beckerman provided music for NBC Sports’ Super Bowl XLVIII and ESPN’s 30 For 30, a documentary series retelling the history and events that have reshaped the world of sports from 1979 to 2009.
In the past Beckerman has worked with the likes of U2, John Legend and Ice-T. He has composed and produced numerous theme songs including National Geographic’s documentary on global warming Six Degrees Could Change the World, History Channel’s series Gangland, and the Travel Channel’s No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain. The list is appropriately endless, attesting for Beckerman’s fifth “Most Performed Themes,” ASCAP award.
