AES New York 2017: Expo and Nightlife Preview

Will AES New York 2017 save the world?

Yes! Thanks to all the amazing music that will be made after this most major of audio conventions, everything will be OK. All those in attendance can expect a solid combo of artistic and technical insights, seeing the latest audio solutions on the exhibit floor, forming new friendships and re-energizing old ones throughout the show.

Exhibits are October 18-20, and the program runs October 18-21^st. The extremely comprehensive technical program of AES NY 2017 the (143^rd International Convention) has a great deal to offer. In addition, this year the show has converged with NAB Show NY, providing access to innovators in broadcast, production, post production and more.

We’re in breathless anticipation of Leslie Ann Jones, featured on two terrific events. On Day One, October 18^th, she’ll deliver the Heyser Memorial Lecture, entitled “Paying Attention.” from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. In a powerful follow up on Thursday, 10/19, Day Two, Jones will also be featured during the 143rd International AES Convention in the special event presentation “Bearing Witness: The Music of Star Wars – Archiving Art and Technology.”

Another can’t-miss pick on Thursday, 10/19, 3 PM, will be the elite producers Jimmy Douglass (AC/DC, Foreigner, Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin, Hall & Oates, Donny Hathaway, Led Zeppelin) and Jack Douglas (John Lennon, Miles Davis, The James Gang, Mountain, The Who, Aerosmith) fielding an open Q&A at the Coleman Audio Booth 259.

On Friday morning, 10/20, at 10:15 AM, expect “Pensado’s Place Live featuring Greg Wells” to be totally packed — Join Dave Pensado and Herb Trawick for a special live version of their mega web TV series Pensado’s Place with special guest Greg Wells (Keith Urban, Katy Perry, Adele, One Republic).

Did we mention the night life? New York always guarantees amazing parties across the boroughs, planned and unplanned. Here are some party picks to perk up your evenings.

Each year, the annual Afterglow is the champ of all pro audio parties. Now in it’s 9th year, it will take place at the legendary Sear Sound on Day Two, Thursday, October 19^th, to mix & mingle with recording industry professionals. In an amazing bonus: the famed Gotye’s Ondioline project will be tracked over hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.  This year’s party comes courtesy of Vintage King, Barefoot, Universal Audio, RETRO, Avid, Antelope, the NAMM TEC Awards, Miloco Studios, Prism Sound, Soyuz Microphones, AVN|SYS, EZ Acoustics, G-Technology, Advanced Systems Group, AirGigs, Recording Connection, Gearslutz, Sear Sound, SonicScoop, Headroom for Days, and KMD Productions. To complete the awesome-exhausted feeling of a Day 3 concluding on a Friday night, October 20^th, treat yourself right by unwinding at the inimitable Studio G Brooklyn. It runs from 8-11, and is presented by Alto Music, Universal Audio, Reverb.com, ATC, and AEA. Positive vibes are guaranteed at this post-show victory lap!
