Mixing Masterclass: Hip Hop Mixing with Jason Cheese Goldberg

Our annual MixCon event has begun!  Once again, we are brining you mixing masterclasses with some of the best platinum-selling and GRAMMY-winning producers and engineers working today.

Kicking it off is Jason “Cheese” Goldberg, who is well-known for his work with notable hip hop artists such as NBA YoungBoy, Travis Scott, Tyler the Creator, No Cap, Pop Smoke, and Rich the Kid—as well as Pop artists such as Nick Jonas, the Kid Laroi, Fifth Harmony, and Meghan Trainor.

What makes Cheese’s masterclass so unique is that he records and mixes tracks that have been streamed hundreds of millions of times each in compromised environments like apartment buildings and hotel rooms.

How does he do it? That’s what today’s masterclass is all about.

Thanks to Oeksound!

Big thanks to Oeksound for helping to make this masterclass free to the public.

Their Soothe 2 plugin is on EVERY mix Cheese does, and it’s easy to understand why.

Soothe can correct the harshness, mudiness, boominess or roominess that you’ll often find on tracks recorded in less than ideal environments.

Their Spiff plugin is amazing at controlling unwanted mouth and string noises, or for adding transient detail and punch to instruments, while Bloom is an incredible tool for radically reshaping tones in a way that sounds natural and organic.

In case you missed it, Hannes Andersson of Oeksound was on our channel on Monday, showing off some of the lesser known tricks with their tools.
