Demystifying Headphones with Rok Gulič of Ollo Audio
When it comes to studio headphones, Rok Gulič, founder of OLLO Audio, really knows his stuff.
Recently on the channel, I talked to Rok about all things mixing headphones, and took your questions about headphone design, live.
We touched on target curves for headphones, best practices for mixing in headphones and more.
We also got to talk in some detail about OLLO’s latest design, the open-back dynamic X1 headphones.
I’ve really enjoyed my experience with the X1 so far. They substantially improve on the already excellent S4 headphones I had from OLLO in the past, with upgraded drivers, voicing, and new hardware that further reduces microphonics and increases comfort.
What I love most about them is probably the hand-finished build quality, comfort and style that’s on offer here. The are headphones built out of real wood and metal, that put them a cut above most mass-manufactured headphones, while helping make them remarkably robust and serviceable.
The sound is also great out of the box, with exceptionally fast transient response for a dynamic driver, and a frequency profile that is very detailed, and deep without excessive boominess. It is an open and clear sound that feels flat to the ear.
But what makes them even better is the included headphone correction software that takes into account the measurements of the specific headphones in the box, rather than just an average of the model, like other companies do. From here, users who want even more low end can juice up the bottom further if desired, making them a great sonic fit for even more sets of ears.
Big thanks to OLLO for being a supporter of this channel and sending us the OLLO Audio X1 to try out.

I’ve owned their headphones since 2018, and they just keep getting better every year! In this video, I give you my thoughts on how they compare to other brands as well, and who might be best suited for them.
