Centipeak Launches Drum Experience – Deep New Drum Sampler

Centipeak wants to take drum samplers to the next level with Drum Experience.

Swedish software developer Centipeak has launched an advanced new drum sampler called Drum Experience.

Centipeak put a huge emphasis on dynamics and realism with this sampler, while also providing a number of features to encourage sound experimentation. Its interface is also designed to facilitate highly detailed mixing.

Operating on VST, AU and RTAS formats, Drum Experience is now available for $359, with add-on drumkits costing $39.

Read ALL about it, direct from Centipeak – we also encourage a visit to the Website to view the video, which gives a good demonstration of Drum Experience in action:

“Drum Experience is the next generation drum sampler with 127 velocity layers, up to 16 individually controllable microphones/drum, an internal routing system virtually without limitations, insert effects of absolute top quality and the ability to load custom samples side-by-side with the full-fledged drums.

The drums have an extreme level of dynamics and realism due to their sheer size combined with an advanced sample selection and processing algorithm which enforces variation and emulates the physics of real drums. All the way from velocity 1 to velocity 127 the drums sound just right.

Insert effects are a vital part of drum production and therefore Drum Experience has integrated versions of Centipeak’s in-house state-of-the-art Bona Fide Effects Series which consists of Bona Fide Reverb, Bona Fide Compressor and Bona Fide Equalizer. To have effects of this quality available inside the drum sampler gives almost infinite possibilities to craft sounds without using a single external effect.
The effect arsenal also contains an event-based Transient Shaper for changing the attack and sustain characteristics of the drums. The Transient Shaper has the first-of-its-kind TransEQ which applies an equalization profile to either the attack or sustain or both.

All basic facilities of a drum sampler are included in Drum Experience, and they been taken to the next level. The pitch has a novel feature, Preserve Attack, for keeping the original punch of the drum while still pitching the tone and sustain of the sound. The envelope control has up to 24-points which can be added at will and reshape the sound with great precision. Each microphone, articulation and MIDI-event type combination has its own envelope. The Volume-curve can boost/cut the volume of a sample based on its velocity, which allows boosting of the quietest ghost hits in the mix or reduce the volume of the highest hits for example.

Custom samples (any WAV-file) can be loaded alongside the drums and they also have access to the pitch, envelope, insert effects and most other features of the drums. This gives incredible opportunities to use Drum Experience as a sampler for all kinds of sounds.

Drum Experience’s well tuned core engine is capable of playing hundreds of samples at the same time, perform the processing of the insert effects, apply pitch and envelope to the sound and route the audio without restrictions on a personal computer or laptop without the need for extra hardware.

Centipeak’s website features a Preset Exchange-site where users, and from time to time guest producers especially invited, can share their presets and sounds with each other. The vision is a large ever growing collection of presets to be used totally free of charge.

The drumkits of Drum Experience have been hand picked for their great sound and unique character.

Glam Rock
The dreamlike sound created in the 70’s by bands such as David Bowie, Gary Glitter, T-Rex and Uriah Heep is something many producers would like to achieve today. The sampling of this drumkit has succeeded in doing what no previous attempt to sample drums for this genre has ever come close to which is capturing some of the magic those legendary records possessed. This is an original 1970-kit with the original heads,
42 years of age now, still sounding magical.

Maple Studio
One thing common to maple wood drumkits is their ability to stand out of a mix. Their natural tone and versatile character are a few of the reasons why they have been frequently used as studio kits for as long as there has been studios. This extremely dynamic drumkit has been sampled in a small room giving it a dry and colourful sound inviting processing and shaping.
