Deetown Entertainment (NYC) Records/Produces 50 Masters of Top Hits for the CW’s “THE NEXT””

The latest music competition series on TV may have featured a nationwide search, but one of the prime beneficiaries was NYC all the way.

DeeTown got to tackle 50 top hits for “THE NEXT”.

Final episodes of “THE NEXT” were broadcast live on The CW from Los Angeles on October 2 and 4, with an Atlantic Records recording contract at stake for the eventual winner, country singer Michael Ray.

Throughout the season, DeeTown Entertainment, a collective of writers, producers, musicians, artists and engineers formed in 1998 in New York City by Ali “Dee” Theodore, exclusively recorded and produced the songs that the contestants performed each week on each show.

DeeTown employed it’s 9,000 sq. ft. NYC recording studio/production facility to produce the contestants’ singles, which were released after each episode on all digital service providers. The net output: following the finale, DeeTown Entertainment recorded and produced over 50 masters of “THE NEXT” contestants’ versions of the world’s top Billboard Hits.

Songs that DeeTown recorded included “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga, “Everybody Talks” by Neon Trees, and “One More Night” by Maroon 5. Examples of their work replicating Katy Perry’s “Firework”, Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”, Eric Church’s “Springsteen”, and Cher Lloyd’s “Want You Back” can be streamed below.

THE NEXT traveled across the country searching for undiscovered artists on the verge of stardom. In each episode, Gloria Estefan, John Rich, Nelly, and Joe Jonas dropped in on the lives of four up-and-coming local singers to prepare them for a head-to-head singing competition at a well-known local venue. After performing in front of an audience filled with friends, family, local music fans and the four icons, one winner was chosen to move on to represent their city in the semi-finals. The finalists from the local cities competed for a recording contract with Atlantic Records, capped with a win by Michael Ray.
