Iceberg Amps Launches With 5184 – Full Featured, Low Power Valve Guitar Amplifier

There’s a new amp line out there. And by the looks of it, yes, the world did need another one.

The company is Iceberg Amps, founded by composer/songwriter/musician/producer – and inspired inventor — Dusan Mihajlovic (aka Dr. Spira). After decades of honing valve guitar amplifiers for the use of himself and a few lucky others, Spira founded Iceberg Amps to bring his designs to a larger audience.

His first offering is the 5184 “Bluesy British”, a low-power valve guitar amplifier whose minimalist construction and philosophy is an immediate attention-getter. Like the other upcoming amps in the Iceberg line, the 5184 aims to offer clean sound, efficient tone controls, high gain, foot switching, line out, and a power amplifier with configurable dynamics.

The 5184 is the first offering from English upstart Iceberg Amps.

Using a single EL84 tube in the output, the 5184 aims to mirror the sound of the “British blues boom”, the small-but-mighty unit represents the soul of a British-built chunky combo amplifier and a Les Paul, providing both a clean channel and a dirtier lead channel.

Other notable facets of the Iceberg Amps 5184 is that it is hand-wired, with point-to-point wiring throughout the audio path, and gold-plated connectors for better contact and durability. It uses “top of the range components and tried and tested robust designs,” within stainless steel enclosures designed to be strong, compact, aesthetically appealing, and easily serviceable.

The 5184 also features is overall power control, effects loop, recording output and multiple switchable modes of operaton of the power amplifier. Its two switchable channels provides a number of tone shaping options that are unique to a single low power amplifier.

Iceberg Amps’ 5184 is available now, and all amps are hand built to order for 1900 Euro, or $2459 at today’s exchange rates.
